Climate change is one of the major threats of our era. This hazardous threat would affect our ecosystems as well as business world and individuals’ daily life and may lead the world to an end. There are many reasons for why climate change has not taken seriously into consideration up until our day. However, it is been a very important point that humankind has a scientific knowledge. There are many seminars and workshops for reasons of climate change that shows us the reasons and solutions of the problems. But it is known that the main affect for it is industrial renovation. And at this point business world should make a big decision. Could the back bone of the economies, industrial operations and production be paused? If the answer is no, then what kind of solutions are made and precautions should be taken? The world is going through the biggest dilemma of its being and looking for solutions to major threat of its endurance.
These critical solutions and decisions brings the reality that our lives and economy would lead to a dead end and warms us about that we need to make crucial changes in our life. The most effective process for reducing the affects of global warming would be to maximize effective use of energy and increasing the use of renewable energy sources. None of the corporations or sectors could do this alone. Thus collaboration is a must. This collaboration should enable all stakeholders to function in vertical, horizontal and in even cross levels. This means every corporation and sector should leave their hesitations regarding competition and look for suitable solutions together with their stakeholders globally.
Climate change also has a negative influence on water supplies and ecosystems. The significance of water – our source of life – has become more important even in political subjects and becomes more of an issue in our daily lives. These important arguments which would make a deep impression in our era do not only barrier the fundamentals of development of a society but also encourage the risks and problems for our economies. Business world must monitor the changes and should take the necessary safety measures before it gets too late.
The congress, which will take place on the dates of 21st – 22nd May 2008 at Istanbul Technical University, Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center is concerning many corporation regardless of their sectors. The congress, which is supported by Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering and International Society for Photogrametry and Remote Sensing would stress out the risks of climate change. Also, the spokespeople would share knowledge and effective solutions to public regarding serious problems and enables them to involve in solutions for protecting our ecosystems. This congress would be a guideline for sustainable development would encourage the vision for new ways of practicing business and, would share the same goals with our association. Our main concern is to seek for maintaining conclusions for Turkey and share the problems along with taking global precautions.
Business Council Sustainable Development Turkey (TBCSD), emphasis the risks that Turkish business world would face. In the mean time TBCSD enlightens the likely problems and even aims to turn risks into beneficial business opportunities. Our association believes sustainable development and business world could collaborate as opposed to the dilemma and makes projects alive. It is would be a big step to make these projects alive and it would make a difference than.
